    • "Forgotten Army"
      In Burma

"Men of the 14th Army, in Burma, refer to themselves as a forgotten force," said Lt Guy Webster, RAN, at the luncheon of the Legacy Club at Hobart yesterday. Lt Webster said the backbone of the 14th Army consisted of men who had served in Malaya and the Malayan affair was still seething in their minds. The 14th Army had suffered 10, 000 battle casualties in six months, and few Australians realised the bitter fighting that was going on in Burma. Most of the British soldiers had served overseas for a long time. The Australian Red Cross had done fine work in looking after the sick. Lt Webster said he had served in the Eastern Fleet, and many Australian- built ships were serving on that front, manned by the Royal Indian Navy.
