    • Launceston Examiner 8 Feb 1881

Hadspen Hotel. The Clerk of the Peace informed the Bench that Mr Benjamin Dyer had given notice of his intention to apply for a license for a new house at Hadspen, to be called the Hadspen Hotel. A petition had been presented against the applica tion being granted, on the ground that the hotel was not required, and that the premises were not suit able for the purpose. The peti tioners also stated that the house was right opposite the Wesleyan church, and the presence of a hotel in such a locality would be very objectionable. Mr Dyer was called, but did not t answer. Mr C. D. Propsting, in reply to the Chairman, said Mr Dyer had previously kept a house upon the township but had allowed the license to lapse for the pur pose of taking the present house, which s he had purchased. He was a suitable person to keep a hotel, and had always conducted his previous house properly. - The house he now applied for y was a suitable place, although it was nsmaller than the previous one he had kept. It had formerly been a licensed house. He thought a hotel was required d at Hadspen, as there was none there at a present, and there was considerable traffic I on the road. At present there was not o one hotel between Pitcher's (Barrett's) d and Carrick. d The Mayor remarked that the house in y question was licensed long before the e Wesleyan Church was erected opposite a to it. m After some consideration the Bench II decided that as Mr Dyer had not attended as I for the purpose of making the application, .i- notice of which lie had already sent in, in the application must lapse. >n TRANSFER. Mr E.HLaunceston Hotel. ~o Mr E. H. Panton applied for a transfer ly of the license of the above hotel from Mrs in Morrison, and the application was unani as mously granted. of The Court then rose.
