In the early 1930s, he went to Adelaide and lived for a short time with one of his cousins Gladys (Broadbent) who had married Albert Hodge. Ron found employment at P.& B. Battery Company at Woodville, not far from the Hodge family. During this time Ron met Doris Toussant and they were married in 1936. Meantime Ron had joined the Royal Australian Air Force and, as 5522, was stationed at the Laverton Air Base in Victoria, where he worked as a mechanic. He gave his home address as Ottoway in South Australia, which was not far from Port Adelaide. Three months after the Second World War began, Ron joined up for active duty in the R.A.A.F., enlisting at Laverton. It is understood that he served for a time in Townsville, Queensland. He was discharged from the R.A.A.F. in September 1945 as Flight Sergeant of 4th Personnel Depot. His wife, Doris had divorced him, some time later he married Maisie Jackson and they lived in Pt Lincoln, South Australia where Ron established an electrical business. Eventually they moved to Queensland, where Maisie died in 1979 in Brisbane. Two years later Ron married Anna Barker in Hobart.Anna was a widow from Brisbane where they lived until 1985 when Ron died suddenly in Cairns, Queensland. Anna lived with her daughter in Brisbane for another seventeen years, dying in Brisbane aged 98 years in 2002.
