  Thomas “the younger” Hull Thomas Hull was born about 1552 in Crewkerne, Somerset, England. [1] [2] [3] He is often referred to as Thomas “the younger” to distinguish him from his older half bother of the same given name. [2] He is the son of Richard Hull and his second wife Alice. [3] [4] There are some genealogy sources that incorrectly identify Thomas “the Younger” Hull as a descendant of Hugh Hull and Matthew Hull. The Hull Family Association Genealogist, Phyllis J. Hughes, has said the following about the family of Thomas “the younger” Hull and this issue: "There is absolutely no evidence to assign this family to a lineage which includes Hugh Hull and Matthew Hull. These Hulls are an entirely separate family from the Crewkerne, England, Hulls, and are not known to be related." [4] He married Joan(e) Peson [or Pysing] on 11 Jan 1572/73 in Crewkerne. [1] [3] They had the following children: 1 Reverend William Hull, born about 1574, died about 1627[1] 2 Mary Hull, born about 1576[1] 3 Agnes Hull, born about 1578, died about 1578[1] 4 Richard Hull, born about 1579, died about 1596[1] 5 Thomas Hull, born about 1582, died before 1627[1][2] 6 Robert Hull, born about 1584, died in 1597[1] 7 John Hull, born about 1586, died in 1627[1] 8 George Hull, born about 1590, died in 1659[1] 9 Francis Hull, born about 1591[1] 10 Joseph Hull, born about 1593, died in 1595[1] 11 Reverend Joseph Hull, born about 1596, died in 1665[1] Thomas and his family apparently lived briefly in Winsham (about 4 miles southwest of Crewkerne), since that is where the first two children (William and Mary) were baptized. The third child (Agnes) was buried in Crewkerne and the remaining children were baptized in Crewkerne. So, it appears that they moved to Crewkerne sometime after the baptism of Mary in 1576. [2] Thomas was a prosperous yeoman who was taxed at Crewkerne in the Subsidy of Charles I in 1627. [5] In the 1630's, Thomas Hull's sons George Hull and Reverend Joseph Hull emigrated from England to the Massachusetts Bay Colony. [6] Thomas Hull's will, dated 17 Dec 1636, was proved 10 Feb 1636/7. He left all his goods and chattels to 'my daughter-in-law Edith Hull's four children to be divided between them as shall be most need, by the discretion of John Hull, schoolmaster and John Bere the elder.' Edith was named executrix in trust for the four children, and John Bell and John Beere were witnesses. [5] [7] Thomas Hull died in Crewkerne, Somerset, England.
