- James Richard Scarlett, 8th Baron Abinger was born on 28 September 1914.1 He was the son of Lt.-Col. Hugh Richard Scarlett, 7th Baron Abinger and Marjorie Ursula McPhillamy.1 He married Isla Carolyn Rivett-Carnac, daughter of Vice-Admiral James William Rivett-Carnac and Isla Nesta Blackwood, on 4 April 1957.1 He died on 23 September 2002 at age 87.2
He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He graduated from Magdalene College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, in 1936 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Royal Artillery.3 He fought in the Second World War.3 He succeeded as the 8th Baron Abinger, of Abinger, Surrey and of the city of Norwich [U.K., 1835] on 21 July 1943.1 He graduated from Magdalene College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, in 1946 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)3 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) for Essex in 1968.3 He gained the rank of officer in 1968 in the Royal Naval Auxiliary Service.3 He was appointed Knight, Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem (K.St.J.)3 He lived in 1999 at 7 Cumberland Street, London, EnglandG.3 He lived in 1999 at Sheepcote House, Castle Hedlingham, Essex, EnglandG.3
