    • Vice-Admiral James William Rivett-Carnac was born on 12 February 1891.2 He was the son of Rev. Sir Clennel George Rivett-Carnac, 6th Bt. and Emily Louisa Crabbe.2,3 He married Isla Nesta Blackwood, daughter of Harry Officer Blackwood, on 20 April 1922.2 He died on 9 October 1970 at age 79.2
      He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches.2 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross (D.S.C.)4 He fought in the Second World War, where he was mentioned in despatches twice.2 He was Commodore of the New Zealand Squadron.2 He was commander of the H.M.S. Rodney between 1941 and 1943.2 He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1944.2 He was awarded the Chevalier, Ordre national de la Légion d'honneur.2 He was Vice-Admiral (Q) of the British Pacific Fleet in 1945.2 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1945.2 He was awarded the Croix de Guerre.2 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) for Suffolk in 1958.2 He lived at Fornham House, Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk, EnglandG.1
