| Notes |
- PATRICK Mac GREGOR, Chieftain of the Children of Mist, called Aberach after his father; among the Gregarach reconciled to the Buchanans 1629; allegedly fought under Montrose at Kilsyth; m. Marion Macdonald of Auchnatrichatan in Glencoe.
2 - Patrick MacGregor, Esq., (rightful) Chief of Clan MacGregor, who was born circa 1581 in Scotland. He married Miss Marion MacDonald of Auchintrichatan (daughter of MacDonald of Auchintrichatan in Glencoe).
from 'The barons of Arrochar and their cadets' a manuscript by Chevalier Terrence Gach MacFarlane chapt. 17 p98 - 16a
3 - Patrick MacGregor of Ardchoille (called Aberach after his father) Chieftain of the Children of the Mist and is also said to have fought under Montrose at Kilsyth in 1645. He would, of course, have been subordinate to Patrick 13th of that Ilk, who was his Chief. He married Marian MacDonald of Auchatrichatan in Glencoe member of the family of the MacDonalds of Glencoe and, perhaps, a distant relative of the MacDonalds of Sleat. By her, with other children, he had two sons '97 lain, his heir, and James who settled in Virginia. In the latter half of the 16th Century this branch of the Clan led such wild and hunted lives in the misty mountains that they became known as MacEagh or "Sons of the Mist." It may be that it is from this Gaelic patronym that James MacGregor took the name MacGehee.
(Letter from Col. Sir Gregor MacGregor of macGregor 23rd Chief, Bart. Scots Guards published in McGhehee Descendants Vol. I)
