  Hamelin Plantagenet 5th Earl of Surrey was born out of wedlock in 1130 in Normandie, France.1 He was the son of Geoffrey V "Plantagenent" Count of Anjou, Duke of Normandy and a concubine.2 In April 1164 Hamelin, married Isabel de Warenne Countess of Surrey, daughter of William de Warenne 3rd Earl of Surrey and Ela de Talvas, in England.2 In 1164, he was present at the council of Northampton, and joined in the denunciation of Archbishop Thomas. He supported King Henry II in 1173, against the king’s sons. In 1176, he was one of the escorts of Joan, daughter of King Henry II, to her marriage to the King of Sicily. Inn 1189, he attended the coronation of King Richard I, and later supported the kings chancellor against the intrigues of Prince John against the King. Then he was one of the treasurers of he ransom for King Richard. At King Richard I’s second coronation, Earl Hamelin was carried one of the three swords. Then in 1199, he attended the coronation of King John.2 Hamelin Plantagenet 5th Earl of Surrey died on Tuesday, 7 May 1202 in England at age 72 years.2 He was buried in Chapter House, Lewes, Sussex, England.2
