The funeral of the late Mr. Donald Munro took place yesterday at Carr Villa, there being a very large following, consisting of representatives of the various wholesale merchants, members of the Foresters' Lodge, and many friends. There were numerous floral tributes, and the service at the graveside was con- ducted by the Rev. W. J. Harris.
The deceased arrived in Tasmania with his parents 65 years ago. His first start in life was with a Mr. John Munro, who owned a sawmilling plant at Ilfracombe. Subsequently, when 18 years of age, he left for 'New Zealand, attracted by the gold rush, and, after spending five years on various fields, returned to Tasmania, and was one of the first Brady Creek prospectors. Afterwards he entered the employ of Messrs. Du Croz, Nicholls, and Co., eventually being appointed head storeman and caretaker at their St. John-street premises, the firm afterwards changing to Messrs. Dalgety, Moore, and Co., Du Croz, Smith, and Co.. and later to Messrs. Charles H. Smith and Co., deceased continuing with each firm, and enjoying the utmost confidence for 47 years' faithful service.
He was one of the first members of the Foresters' Lodge, taking a very keen interest in the lodge in its early stage.
